Meet Ellen!
Ellen is the amazing force behind the knitting instruction at Barltett’s!
Talent does not begin to describe her! She and Susan worked to recreate several of the Bartlettyarns patterns including the Mud Season Sock and the Water Street Beanie this summer. She took cryptic patterns and created a work of art for all knitters to follow.
Every meeting ended with the question of
“Why did you walk into my shop?”
Ellen has taught knitting all over New England and worked for Borocco yarns. She is an accomplished knitter, pattern writer, weaver, seamstress, felter and ten other hidden talents waiting to be discovered!
We like to sum it up as being a wonderful, talented and patient person who is a joy to call a friend. Ellen has several self-published patterns under the name O’dacier.
We cannot wait to see the next creations up her sleeve!
Meet Susan!
Susan is the owner of Bartlettyarns along with her husband Lindsey. The inspiration behind Bartlett’s comes from a desire to help revitalize the city of Rochester, NH and to bring a little piece of the history to the present.
I taught myself to knit as a little girl after watching my grandmother knit on single pointed needles. She made all of our mittens and we used to wait in line at the Church Christmas Fair to purchase those that she made!
This transformed into a passion for knitting and as the wife of a shearer, who also raised sheep, wool supply was not an issue. My first investment at Bartlettyarns was $400 and that eventually led to owning the business 25 years later. In that 25 years, many Farmer’s Markets, Festival and Fairs were attended with the homemade and hand knit creations I had made. My background developed as a designer and eventually dabbling in pattern development. My life has evolved around sheep and wool including certification as a Class I Wool Grader/Handler.
Teaching has been part of my career in fiber arts. From needle felting, knitting and crocheting, I have taught a variety of ages. At the moment, I am enjoying the needle felting craze of teaching as well as designing.
